Low-volatility diester-base aircraft instrument lubricating oil (amber). Intended for aircraft instruments, avionics and other electronic equipment where a very low evaporation rate, excellent oxidative and corrosion resistance, and stable viscosity across extreme temperatures are required. Suitable service temperature range approximately −65°F to 250°F (−54°C to 121°C). May adversely affect certain paints and elastomers — always test for compatibility before use.

Lead times vary due to changing market and supply conditions — please contact us for current availability and estimated ship dates.

Typical applications: aircraft instruments, avionics and other precision instrument lubrication where low volatility and stable viscosity are required.

Brayco 885 is a high-performance diester-base aircraft instrument lubricating oil formulated for precision lubrication in aircraft instruments, avionics, and other electronic and electromechanical systems where extremely low volatility and dimensional stability are required. Its amber color and refined formulation deliver low evaporation loss, excellent oxidative and corrosion resistance, and highly stable viscosity across a wide service temperature window — making it ideal for gyros, attitude indicators, flight instruments, servos, and other precision components that demand consistent fluid film behavior under both extreme cold starts and elevated operating temperatures.

Designed to meet the rigorous performance and shelf-life needs of aviation maintenance and OEM specifications, Brayco 885 is qualified to MIL-PRF-6085 (refer to the PDS for the specific amendment/revision and any vendor listing). Instrument oils such as Brayco 885 are formulated to minimize vapor pressure and prevent vapor lock or drift in sensitive instruments, while resisting oxidation and varnish formation that can impair instrument performance or require premature overhaul.

Because instrument oils interact differently with paints, plastics, lacquered surfaces and certain elastomers, Brayco 885 should always be tested for material compatibility during approval and maintenance procedures. Note that while the typical usable service range is approximately −65°F to 250°F (−54°C to 121°C), exact low-temperature fluidity, pour point, viscosity at reference temperatures and other properties must be confirmed from the PDS for the lot you are supplying.

Applications & recommended use
Brayco 885 is intended for precision aircraft instrument lubrication, avionics mechanisms and similar low-volatility lubrication tasks. It is commonly used in gyroscopic instruments, flight control actuators with fine tolerances, and other systems where control surface drag, measurement accuracy, or electrical/electronic reliability could be impacted by fluid volatility or residue. For critical or certified installations, always follow OEM and MRO guidance and provide the PDS/SDS for provenance and traceability.

Warehouse instruction
Protect packages from the elements by storing them under cover. When outdoor storage cannot be avoided, position drums horizontally to prevent water ingress and protect identification markings. Ensure products are not exposed to temperatures exceeding 60 °C, prolonged direct sunlight, or freezing conditions.
