Castrol Brayco® 589 is a premium corrosion-preventive oil engineered for aircraft and military hardware preservation, protection, and short-term lubrication of exposed components during storage, shipment, or maintenance. Formulated to meet the demands of military maintenance programs, Brayco 589 provides robust corrosion inhibition and surface protection while remaining easy to remove during normal overhaul and servicing operations. Use Brayco 589 where corrosion prevention, ease of application, and reliable removal are required for parts preservation and supply-chain protection.
Key features & benefits
-
Long-lasting corrosion protection for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, reducing the risk of rust and pitting during storage and transport.
-
Balanced tack and film properties that cling to vertical and irregular surfaces without excessive dripping, yet allow straightforward degreasing and clean-up during maintenance.
-
Low-volatility formulation that helps maintain a protective film under variable temperature conditions and long storage periods.
-
Compatible with common preservation practices and removable with standard solvent or aqueous cleaning methods (see PDS/SDS for approved cleaners).
-
Supplied in multiple pack sizes — drums and pails — to support depot, shop, and field preservation workflows.
Typical applications
-
Preservation of aircraft components, airframes, landing gear, hubs and bearings during storage and transit.
-
Protection of spare parts inventories, assemblies, and rotating hardware prior to installation.
-
Temporary corrosion protection during overhaul, shipment, and between maintenance cycles.
-
Use as a protective film for shipped or bench-stored avionics and mechanical parts where a removable preservative is required.

Compatibility & handling
Brayco 589 is designed to be compatible with a wide range of metals and common coatings used in aerospace and military equipment; however, compatibility with specific elastomers, paints, or polymers may vary. Always consult the PDS and SDS for material compatibility guidance, recommended application methods, and approved removal/cleaning agents.
Storage & transportation
Store in original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and ignition sources. Keep drums upright and protected from prolonged UV exposure. Transport and ship according to applicable regulatory and carrier requirements; some pack sizes may be subject to hazmat/regulated shipping rules depending on local regulations and the carrier used.
Warehouse instruction
Protect packages from the elements by storing them under cover. When outdoor storage cannot be avoided, position drums horizontally to prevent water ingress and protect identification markings. Ensure products are not exposed to temperatures exceeding 60 °C, prolonged direct sunlight, or freezing conditions.
